Keynote Speaker: Donald M. Berwick, MD, MPP, is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) is a not-for-profit organization leading the improvement of health care throughout the world. Dr. Berwick has received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the 2006 John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award for Individual Achievement from the National Quality Forum and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. This honor was awarded for Dr. Berwick’s role in making significant and lasting contributions to improving patient safety and health care quality.

Closing Speaker: James N. Thompson, MD, is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB). The FSMB is a national non-profit association that serves as a collective voice for the 70-member allopathic and osteopathic state medical licensing and regulatory boards in the United States and its territories. The Federation’s primary mission is to improve the quality, safety, and integrity of health care by promoting high standards for physician licensure and practice. Dr. Thompson represented the American Medical Association on the Executive Committee of the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and was Chair of the Governing Council of the AMA’s Section on Medical Schools.
