AIAMC 2009 Annual Meeting

Partnerships

March 26-28, 2009
Loews Ventana Canyon Resort
Tucson, Arizona

Agenda

Thursday, March 26th - AIAMC Partnering At A National Level

Pre-Conference Workshop*
8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

"Incorporating the Matrix in Your GME Program"
John Bingham, VP, Performance Improvement & Chief Quality Officer and
Doris Quinn, PhD, Director, Process Improvement and Quality Education - MD Anderson Cancer Center

This workshop will demonstrate how residents have used the Healthcare Matrix to assess care for patients with pneumonia in terms of the Institute for Medicine Aims for improvement and the ACGME Competencies. The Healthcare Matrix is a tool that guides learners to ask if care is: safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable and patient centered.  The tool also integrates the competencies (now required by the ACGME, maintenance of certification boards and the Joint Commission for credentialing) and external quality metrics into real-time assessment of care. Workshop participants will see how residents learn the most common QI tools and use these tools to improve processes of care based on a resident-based Healthcare Matrix curriculum.  Participants will practice using the Healthcare Matrix with a case presentation and will share lessons learned from the case presentation.

Success in partnerships comes from getting both their strategy and their implementation right. In the Friday morning plenary session, we will have considered the big picture from the perspectives of medical schools and hospitals. In this workshop, we will continue our discussion of strategic factors, but also delve deeper into practical issues concerning the economics, the organization and the processes involved in successful partnerships. Come prepared to share your own experience, to explore the issues you face today and to roll up your sleeves and develop creative solutions. It will be a highly interactive session that should leave you with suggestions and tips to address your own situation.
